Brancheorganisatie Kinderopvang is a national umbrella organization representing childcare providers across the Netherlands.
With a small but dedicated internal team, their mission is to connect families with reliable childcare options while supporting their members with up-to-date information, administrative tools, and community resources. Their broader goal is to grow into the largest childcare network in the country, making it easier for both parents and providers to find each other through one central platform.
To achieve this, they needed a digital presence that reflected their ambition. Their previous website had become restrictive, visually outdated, and difficult to manage as their content demands continued to grow. They produced a large volume of information that needed to be published quickly, but the old structure limited their flexibility. The organization had recently completed a full rebranding, and the new identity needed to be implemented seamlessly into a modern website that would serve them for years to come.
Challenge
The main challenge was to rebuild the entire website from the ground up while ensuring their team could continue using their familiar WordPress environment.
They needed a fast, intuitive, and future-proof platform capable of handling news, events, podcasts, and a wide range of informational content, all of which had to be published at a rapid pace. A custom member search engine also had to be designed, allowing parents to easily find childcare providers near their location.
A critical technical challenge involved designing and implementing a scalable login system for a large number of childcare organizations, followed by the careful migration of all user data from the old platform to the new one. The team had a clear vision and a solid budget, but the technical demands required a careful balance of speed, reliability, and long-term flexibility. The transition also needed to be as smooth as possible for the members who relied on the system daily.
Execution
We approached the project through a collaborative, iterative workflow involving the client, their branding agency, and our development team.
Through regular workshops, design reviews, and feedback sessions, we aligned on priorities such as user experience, accessibility, content structure, and the integration of the new brand identity. While the client wished to keep WordPress as their CMS, we proposed a headless architecture powered by React and Next.js, offering significantly improved performance and freedom in frontend development.
Throughout development, communication remained continuous and open. A shared Slack channel allowed the client to reach us quickly with questions from their members, and weekly meetings ensured transparency on progress, sprint planning, and new insights. Building the login system and migrating all member data required careful planning and testing, but by coordinating closely with the client’s internal team, we managed to complete the transition smoothly. After three months of focused development, we launched the new website, followed by a testing and refinement period to ensure everything functioned as expected.
Result & Future Projects
The result is a modern, user-friendly website that has been positively received by both the internal team and the childcare members who rely on it.
Publishing new content is now significantly faster, and the flexible block-based editing system gives the organization far more freedom than before. Members experience greater clarity, easier navigation, and improved accessibility across all devices, reflecting the professionalism and reliability Brancheorganisatie Kinderopvang aims to represent.
By reducing the manual workload required to maintain the platform, the organization now saves valuable time, allowing them to focus more on their core mission. The project achieved all initial objectives and established a stable foundation for long-term growth. Our collaboration is ongoing, with continued technical support, regular upgrades to PHP, APIs, WordPress, and the frontend.
