Dagelijkse Broodkruimels is a Christian e-commerce organization driven by the mission to guide people through life’s journey.
Every day, they deliver value in small, meaningful steps, following the principle of ‘one crumb at a time.’ With a compact team, their strategy is centered around delivering value consistently.
As their audience and platform grew, the digital foundation became increasingly important to their daily operations. The platform had evolved organically over time to support new ideas and functionality, but its technical setup was no longer fully aligned with the organization’s scale and available resources. This created a growing need to reassess the platform’s structure and long-term sustainability.
Challenge
Dagelijkse Broodkruimels reached a point where their platform required greater stability and predictability to support continued growth.
The existing hosting and architectural setup had been designed with flexibility in mind, but in practice it proved difficult to maintain efficiently with a small team. Periodic instability made it harder to rely on the platform with full confidence, particularly during peak usage moments.
In addition, the organization had the ambition to remain closely involved in the development of their platform. To support this goal, they needed clearer technical guidance and a more robust foundation that would allow them to build and iterate safely over time. The existing JavaScript-based stack and infrastructure added complexity, making it important to carefully assess how best to improve stability without disrupting ongoing operations.
Execution
We began by prioritizing platform reliability, taking the time to fully understand the existing infrastructure and its behaviour under real-world conditions.
This involved close collaboration with the client and their previous developer, ensuring knowledge transfer and continuity throughout the process.
To minimize risk, we introduced a dedicated testing and acceptance environment and carried out in-depth analysis of the platform’s performance. Given the platform’s active user base, scalability was a key consideration from the start. We conducted load testing and simulated high traffic scenarios to identify performance bottlenecks and areas for improvement.
By proactively stress-testing the system in controlled conditions, we were able to make targeted optimizations that improved both stability and scalability. Throughout the project, communication remained frequent and transparent, with regular check-ins, shared findings, and collaborative decision-making.
Result & Future Projects
The improvements delivered immediate and tangible results.
Platform uptime increased significantly, providing a far more reliable experience for users and reducing the operational burden on the team. Where the platform previously required close monitoring, it now operates with greater independence and supports a higher volume of transactions with confidence.
With a stable foundation in place, the collaboration continues through a monthly support agreement. We focus on ongoing improvements, maintenance, and long-term reliability, enabling Dagelijkse Broodkruimels to dedicate more time and energy to their mission, content, and community growth.
What Makes This Project Special
This project challenged us to expand our technical expertise and adapt to a new technology stack and infrastructure setup.
Working with a JavaScript-based environment and Kubernetes required experimentation, learning, and persistence, ultimately strengthening our capabilities in scalability testing, container orchestration, and performance optimization.
Most importantly, it reinforced a key lesson we now apply to future projects: testing environments must closely resemble real production conditions. By embracing this mindset, we help ensure that platforms don’t just work in theory, but remain stable and reliable when it matters most.
